What kinds of surveillance equipment can I connect to Ivideon? How do I connect it?

Last update: 31.07.2024

The Ivideon cloud service allows you to connect the following types of devices:

  1. Ivideon-ready IP cameras (i.e., with Ivideon firmware preinstalled)

  2. IP cameras without Ivideon firmware

  3. Webcams (integrated and USB cameras)

  4. Analog cameras

  5. Ivideon-ready DVRs

  6. DVRs/HVRs without Ivideon firmware

The way you connect your device to our service depends on the type of the device you have.

1. Connecting Ivideon-ready IP cameras

Ivideon-ready IP cameras are the Nobelic or Oco devices that can be purchased from our site. These cameras can be attached to Ivideon directly and require only to be connected to a power source and to the Internet via a router (using Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable).

More details on how to connect these cameras to our service can be found in the Ivideon-ready IP cameras set of articles in our knowledge base.

2. Connecting IP cameras without Ivideon firmware

Any IP cameras without preinstalled Ivideon firmware purchased anywhere can be connected to our service in case they support transferring their video streams over the RTSP, ONVIF or native Dahua, Hikvision or Uniview protocols. You can generally find information about the support of these protocols by consulting the device’s instruction manual or its manufacturer.

To connect such cameras to Ivideon, you would need to install our desktop application called Ivideon Server. Please see the How to add IP/analog cameras and DVRs articles for more details on how to connect these devices.

When connecting cameras via Ivideon Server, please mind that it is required to have the PC with the Server app, as well as the app itself, running for as long as you would like your cameras to remain available online. If it is not possible for you to have a PC that runs permanently, we can suggest connecting your devices via one of our Ivideon-ready hybrid video recorders or purchasing our Ivideon-ready IP cameras and connecting them to Ivideon directly.

Third-party cameras can also be connected to the service with the additional hardware named Ivideon Bridge, which is to be installed in the same local network as the surveillance devices. Ivideon Bridge is a portable machine which allows connecting up to 16 cameras with a total bitrate of up to 32 Mbps. Specific details about the Bridge device can be found in the corresponding section of our knowledge base.

Some models of cameras from third-party manufacturers can also have their firmware updated to the Ivideon-based firmware. The list of models which have this option, as well as the firmware files, can be found here — Hardware Integrated with Ivideon. Please note that after installing the firmware and connecting a device from the list to Ivideon directly, it may require an activation key in order to operate in our service.

3. Connecting webcams

Webcams can be connected to Ivideon using the Ivideon Server application. Schematically, these devices are to be connected the following way:

Please see the Connecting Integrated and USB Webcams to Ivideon Server section of articles for more details on how to add these devices to our service.

4. Connecting analog cameras

Analog cameras can be added to Ivideon in case they are connected to a digital or a hybrid video recorder. When connecting such a recorder to our service, video streams from its analog cameras will become available automatically without adding them separately.

Depending on the recorder used (with or without Ivideon firmware), the cameras will need to be connected one of the two following ways:

1. Via an Ivideon-based DVR/HVR:

2. Via a third-party DVR/HVR without Ivideon firmware:

Please mind that a PC with Ivideon Server app installed in this scheme can also be replaced by the Ivideon Bridge device.

To find more detailed information about how analog cameras can be connected to your recorder, please use the instruction manual of the device or contact its manufacturer.

The connection of recorders to Ivideon is described in the following sections of this article — Connecting Ivideon-ready DVRs and Connecting DVRs/NVRs without Ivideon firmware.

5. Connecting Ivideon-ready DVRs

The list of Ivideon-ready DVRs consists of:

1. Nobelic HVRs that can be purchased on our site. These recorders can be attached to Ivideon directly and require only to be connected to a power source and to the Internet via a router using Ethernet cable.

More information on how these HVRs can be added to the service can be found in this set of articles about Ivideon-based recorders.

2. Ivideon Bridge, a compact plug-and-play device with built-in Ivideon firmware that allows you to add cameras and recorders of various manufacturers to our service (in case they support either RTSP, ONVIF, or native Dahua, Hikvision or Uniview video streaming protocols). The maximum number of devices that can be connected to a Bridge is 16 cameras or DVR channels in any combination. The stable work of the Bridge device can be guaranteed with total bitrate of the connected cameras not exceeding 32 Mbps.

For more on how Ivideon Bridge can be added to the service, as well as adding devices to it, please refer to our set of articles about Ivideon Bridge.

6. Connecting DVRs/NVRs without Ivideon firmware

Any DVR/HVR devices without preinstalled Ivideon firmware purchased anywhere can be connected to our service in case they support transferring their video streams over the RTSP, ONVIF or native Dahua or Hikvision protocols. You can generally find information about the support of these protocols by consulting the recorder’s instruction manual or its manufacturer.

To connect such cameras to Ivideon, you would need to install our desktop application called Ivideon Server. For more information on how to connect these recorders to Ivideon Server, please see the How to add IP/analog cameras and DVRs section here.

When connecting recorders via Ivideon Server, please mind that it is required to have the PC with the Server app, as well as the app itself, running for as long as you would like your cameras to remain available online. If it is not possible for you to have a PC that is always running, we can suggest the following:

Some models of recorders from third-party manufacturers like Hikvision can also have their firmware updated to the Ivideon-based firmware. The list of models which have this option, as well as the firmware files, can be found here. Please note that after installing the firmware and connecting a device from the list to Ivideon directly, it will require an activation key in order to operate in our service.
